How to get the best out of your evaporative cooler

Regular maintenance of your portable evaporative cooler can help prevent costly breakdowns, reduce energy costs and extend the life of your products.

Preparing your evaporative cooler for the off-season
There are several steps you can take to make sure your evaporative cooler is ready to go when warm weather returns.

  • Be sure the Kuul Comfort™ evaporative media is completely dry
  • Drain any water that may be in the reservoir
  • Remove the Kuul Comfort evaporative media and thoroughly wipe down the inside of the reservoir
  • Replace the evaporative media, ensuring it is replaced with the directional stickers pointing in the correct direction, and secure the electrical cord

Store your evaporative cooler in a dry area. Protective covers designed specifically for your Portacool evaporative cooler are available from Portacool online at shop.portacool.com. Protective covers prevent dust build-up and increase the life of your Kuul Comfort evaporative media.

Preparing your evaporative cooler for warm weather
There here are several steps you can take to make sure your evaporative cooler is performing at its peak.

  • Inspect the Kuul Comfort™ evaporative media for breakdown and clean/replace any dirty or broken pieces
  • Ensure the fan rotates freely
  • If present, check fan belt and tighten if necessary
  • Check and clean the water reservoir and spray bar
  • Replace the Kuul Comfort evaporative media, ensuring it is replaced with the directional stickers pointing in the correct direction

How do I clean my Portacool evaporative cooler?
Start by draining the evaporative cooler. All Portacool evaporative coolers come with a large 2” drain on the bottom. Locate the drain, unscrew the cap and allow water to drain. Ensure the Kuul evaporative media is completely dry, then remove and wipe down the inside of the evaporative cooler - use a shop vac to remove any remaining water. Replace the evaporative media.


Can the fan and pump operate separately?
Yes, the fan and pump motors are separate systems. You can run one without the other with no damage to the product.


What happens if my evaporative cooler runs out of water?
All Portacool Cyclone evaporative coolers come with an automatic low water shut off. When the evaporative cooler is out of water, a red light will illuminate on the control panel and the pump will shut off.


Will I need a special plug for my Portacool evaporative cooler? All Portacool Cyclone evaporative coolers require a standard three-prong 115v electrical outlet.
